This statement seems so dèmodè, so age, something you'd expect to hear dating back from the 50's or 60's.

It has been a long time since women count on more important values than diamonds.

There has been the feminist movement in between, a new conscience toward the role of

women in society, family, professions.

We have come a long way !!!!

I am not even sure that the diamond market is so floureshing as it has been in the past.

The recent jewel and gem exhibitions I have visited, show that the market is very slow and still with rough water ahead.

The exhibitors are showing off their catch, but reality shows differently.

Of course diamonds rings are still a girl's dream, receiving a jewelry gift for a special occasion warms everyone's heart, they are for keeps, but moderation is the key word.

I have orientated myself to fine custom jewelry, it is fun and very interesting to try to find, either in special shops or at some vintage markets.

Some custom jewelry is finely made, very unique and original, and also quite expensive.

Also fashion designers have a respectable collection of custom jewelry, some dating back from the early century.

Coco Chanel was the first designer to create luxury custom jewerly to compensate women during the time of war, when wearing expensive jewelry would have been unsafe and unwise.

In this hectic period where relationships are precarious, having a real friend to count on is a respectable substitute, rather than having diamonds laying in a bank's safe.

A true friend, a hubby hugging you warmly, your kids, family, a good movie, a good book,

these are a girl's best friends !!!!!!!
